How does emergency conversion kit work?
The technical characteristics of the emergency conversion kits vary according to the emergency lighting requirements.
For LED, fluorescent or halogen lamps
Different light sources require different inverter circuits.
Even if they are both LED conversion kits, the kits for use with LED bulbs/tubes (with integrated drivers) are different from the kits for LED panel lights/downlights (with separate drivers).
Maintenance or non-maintenance.
Two modes of emergency lighting operation in the event of a power outage. The maintenance system operates during both normal power supply and power outages, while the non-maintenance emergency lights only come on during power outages.
Integrated or External Battery Packs
Some emergency kits come with a built-in battery pack in a single housing with an inverter. They are smaller in size than emergency kits with external batteries.
Full power output or energy efficient output
Full power output means that the emergency power kit can keep the lighting running at full power in the event of an interruption in the normal power supply.
Energy saving output means that the emergency kit runs the lighting in energy saving mode. For example, if the LEDs are 50W, the emergency kit will run the LEDs at 5W illumination during an AC power interruption.
Different types of batteries
The battery pack is an important part of the emergency power kit. The following three types of batteries are commonly used for emergency lighting today.
Lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries (LiCoO2)
Nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries
Nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries
Lithium-iron (LiFePo4) batteries
